Fela Anikulapo Kuti was imprisoned in 1984 for speaking truth to power.He was released and he created a Grammy-nominated masterpiece, "Beasts of No Nation which is still very much recognized till today.
Professor Wole Soyinka
Professor Wole Soyinka(Fela Kuti’s cousin), spent 22 months in solitary confinement during the civil war, only to emerge to write a critically acclaimed book, "The Man Died.”

Olusegun Obasanjo
Obasanjo was imprisoned in 1995 for allegedly organizing a coup against Abacha. In October 1998, He was released and ran for a president and won against his opponent Chief Olu Falae under the PDP political party. (People's Democratic party) He even won an award(LI Prize for Freedom 1997) which was collected by his wife- Stella Obasanjo when he was still in prison.
Olabisi Ajala
Not many people are aware of this Nigerian who probably even started the Guinness world record breaker trend. Ajala visited about 87 countries, with a Scooter Vespa motorcycle in six years and met leaders and presidents and important personalities.He was arrested and sentenced to a jail term for forgery, grand theft and worthless cheque which he denied. Though his life was a Nollywood movie kind of life, Ebenezer Obey sang about his traveling achievements before his fame died.

Jerry Rawlings
Jerry Rawlings was the savior of Ghana but before that, in 1979, he was arrested by the military.Rawlings was publicly sentenced to death in a General court. MKO Abiola
Moshood Abiola was a businessman who won the inconclusive election. He declared himself the president and was detained for four years, largely in solitary confinement on the condition that he denies his mandate. He died unexpectedly, shortly after the death of General Abacha, on the day that he was due to be released. There are a lot of places, buildings and a day(June 12) to celebrate him.
This exception however teaches that maybe it's not so bad to die for your country. True yeah?
